THE picture-postcard village of Levington has been named the best in the region - and will now go forward to a national final.

Levington has won the 2007/8 Calor Village of the Year title for East England in the prestigious competition.

It was nominated to participate following its success in last year's county event - the Calor Suffolk Village of the Year.

The competition rewards and encourages vibrant, self-sustaining communities which have made the best of local opportunities to maintain and enhance the quality of life for all residents.

Levington has now gone through to a national final where the overall winner for England will be decided.

The village will again face a visit from the final round judging team. The winner will be revealed on Tuesday December 2 in London.

Competition manager at Calor, Suzanne Weir, said: “The standard of entries this year has been very high and Levington is a worthy winner of the regional title for East England. We're really looking forward to an exciting and nail biting final judging round and wish villagers the best of luck in the next stage of the competition.”
