Walberswick: Unexploded mine discovered on beach
Bomb experts detonated an unexploded mine discovered by a member of the public on a Suffolk beach.
The Second World War explosive was found at Walberswick this morning.
Police were called to the scene by a member of the public just before 10am.
People living in nearby property did not need to be evacuated but officers cordoned off the area and called for a bomb disposal unit, which arrived later in the afternoon.
The mine was detonated by controlled explosion.
A spokeswoman for Suffolk Constabulary said: “Police were called by a member of the public to a possible unexploded device at Walberswick.
“The object was identified as a beach mine and the area was made safe.”
