Householders in west Suffolk have been warned to be on their guard against bogus callers posing as firefighters.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service officials said they had been alerted to incidents in Sudbury and Long Melford.
A spokesman said: “We have had reports today of firefighters knocking on doors in the area and asking to check smoke alarms.
“These are not Suffolk firefighters. If a Suffolk firefighter comes to your door they will always have their ID badge clearly displayed.
“If you have any doubt refuse entry. Please be careful of bogus callers.”
