Storm Bronagh has headed away from our region this morning but the windy conditions are set to stay with us.
Forecasters are predicting another blustery day across the region with a good chance of showers for most areas after a night of strong winds battered the region bringing down trees and leaving some without power this morning.
Suffolk Highways reported on Twitter this morning that Sandy Lane in Hemingstone was closed while emergency crews worked to clear a tree brought down in the wind.
Suffolk Highways said: “Sandy Lane, Hemingstone is currently closed by @SuffolkPolice Our emergency crews are currently working to clear a large tree blocking the road.
“Take care of falling trees and loose debris until #StormBronagh passes. To report fallen trees and branches, please call 0345 606 6171.”
Despite the wind Highways England said this morning that they had no plans to close the Orwell Birdge because of the windy conditions.
UK Power Networks have been called to a number of power cuts across the county this morning.
A message on the company’s website said that engineers were on scene.
“We were investigating a high voltage overhead electricity line fault which caused a power cut in the local area,” said UK Power Network.
The largest of which was just outside of Stowmarket in the area around Mendlesham and Wetheringsett.
Around 80 homes remain without power.
At Hebridge near Maldon around 68 homes are without power this morning as problems with an overhead electricity line are investigated.
Near Leiston around 35 homes are currently waiting to be reconnected.
Temperatures will be a lot cooler than they have been in recent days, reaching a maximum of 16 or 17C.
This mixture of wind and showers will continue through much of the day.
It won’t be until later on this evening that the showers eventually stop, leading to a dry start to the weekend.
Temperatures overnight will drop to around 6C.
Another weather system is already heading our way from the Atlantic for the weekend, however, with forecasters already predicting more wet and windy conditions.
Saturday will start out dry and fine with lighter winds and a top temperature will be around 13C.
However, rain and drizzle are likely to arrive on Saturday afternoon.
There is some uncertainty over conditions on Sunday.
A yellow weather warning for wind has already been issued by the Met Office for Sunday morning into Monday with showers also likely.
