The Met Office has issued a weather warning for the region for later this week.
The yellow warning for wind is in place from 9pm on Thursday until 6pm on Friday, though forecasters say the situation could change as the weather system develops during the week.
There is the potential for gales or even severe gales to sweep across towards the southeast, accompanied by a band of heavy rain.
Gusts of between 50-60 mph are expected quite widely in the warning area, with some gusts in excess of 70 mph possibly developing in exposed areas along the English Channel coast.
