After a dreary start to the day what does the weekend hold? And will it be dry for New Year’s celebrations?

More rain is set to fall across the region in the next few days after a night of wet and windy conditions but there should be a let up in the rain this afternoon according to reports.

Phil Garner, a forecaster at Weatherquest, said this morning: “There is still a little more rain to come but it is moving away.”

“Things will improve in the afternoon around 1 - 2pm.”

Conditions should get warmer throughout the day, reaching a possible six or seven degrees celsius.

Tonight skies will be clear for a time with a touch of frost possible.

Into the weekend light showers are expected on Saturday with conditions becoming warmer and drier through the day. Temperatures could reach 10 to 11 degrees celsius.

Heavy rain is expected to return to the area on Sunday morning

A spokesperson for Suffolk Constabulary said that they had been called by highways to help deal with a small amount of flooding on junction 49 on the westbound A14 and that other road obstructions had been reported including a fallen tree in Great Finborough.

Initial forecasts for New Year’s Day look to be close run with current predictions lining up yet more showers in the region between 2 and 3am on Monday morning.
