Here are the major roadworks taking place across the East of England region this coming week.

The following works are taking place between August 29 and September 3.

A14 Bury St Edmunds junction improvements

Improvement works are being carried out on the A14 junction 45 Rookery Crossroads/Rougham.

Works include construction of new eastbound slip roads, which are being funded by Suffolk County Council as part of the Bury St Edmunds Eastern Relief Road scheme.

There is a 24 hour 40mph speed limit in place through the works for safety in the eastbound direction only.

A11 Wymondham bypass, Norfolk: carriageway, drainage repairs and vegetation clearance

Overnight work to restore the carriageway in both directions will start at 8pm on Tuesday 29 August for 9 weekday nights, finishing at 6am on Saturday 9 September, weather permitting.

While work takes place on the A11 northbound or southbound, there will be single lane closures in place past the works area.

Northbound works will take place overnight on 29 and 30 August between the B1172 Spooner Row interchange and B1135 Tuttles Lane interchange. Overnight on 31 August, the northbound A11 will have one lane closed from the B1172 Spooner Row interchange to the A47 Thickthorn interchange.

Overnight on 1 September works revert southbound between the A47 Thickthorn interchange to B1172 Spooner Row interchange. Overnight on 4 and 5 September one lane of the A11 southbound will be closed from the B1135 Tuttles Lane interchange to the B1172 Spooner Row interchange.

Overnight on 6 and 7 September there will be Lane 1 closures in place southbound between the B1135 Browick Road interchange and B1172 Spooner Row interchange.

A12 junction 25 Marks Tey, Essex: street lighting

Work to install a new street lighting system will start this week. The northbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Tuesday 29 August for 4 nights.

A clearly signed diversion for the exit slip road will be in place via junction 26 and return. A clearly signed diversion for the entry slip road will be in place via junction 24 and return.

A12 junctions 24 Kelvedon North to 23 Kelvedon South, Essex: bridge repair

Work to maintain safety by repairing the Ewell Bridge continues this week. The damaged pedestrian bridge over the A12 remains closed 24/7 while repair work continues. Pedestrians will be diverted to use the alternative route.

A12/A120 Crown Interchange (Junction 27), Colchester, Essex: drainage works

Overnight work to improve drainage on the A120 under the A12 Crown Interchange will start on Tuesday 29 August for two nights (8pm to 6am) finishing at 6am on 31 August.

While these works take place the A120 westbound will be closed with traffic diverted via the A1232 towards Colchester and A133 westbound to join the A12 southbound at Spring Lane (Junction 26).

A120/A12 Marks Tey Roundabout, Essex: street lighting

Work to install new street lighting will start this week. All approaches to the roundabout will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Tuesday 29 August for 4 nights.

Residents who require access to the Marks Tey estate should approach via Kelvedon and the A120 eastbound.

A120 Fox Street, Ardleigh near Colchester: drainage works

Overnight work to improve drainage on the A120 near the Fox Street junction at Ardleigh near Colchester will start on Wednesday 31 August for two nights (8pm to 6am) finishing at 6am on Friday 2 September.

While these works take place there will be single lane closures (Lane 2) in place on the A120 in both directions while drainage works take place in the central reservation area.

A120 Dovercourt to Parkston, Essex: survey works

Overnight work to survey the condition of the A120 between Dovercourt roundabout and Parkston roundabout on the A120 will start on 29 August for 4 nights (8pm to 6am).

While work takes place A120 traffic will be diverted to follow the B1352 parallel to the A120.

A120 Marks Tey to B1024 Coggeshall, Essex: resurfacing, drainage and lighting

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing, drainage and lighting maintenance continues this week.

The carriageway will be closed in both directions overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Tuesday 29 August for four nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A12, A130, A131 and A120, and vice versa.

A120 Marks Farm, Braintree to B1024 Coggeshall, Essex: resurfacing, drainage and lighting

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing, drainage and lighting maintenance continues this week. Temporary traffic lights will be in place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Tuesday 29 August for four nights.

A120 Pellens: Corner Survey and Investigation

Highways England is planning an improvement scheme along the A120 at the junctions with Harwich Road, Park Road and Pellens Corner designed to improve the safety for local residents and road users.

To prepare for construction, engineering ground investigation and ecological works have occurred and further investigative works are required.

Works are expected to last until the end of August and include: trenching, trial pits and will require the removal of trees to allow for suitable access to carry out the work.

A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire: major improvements

Early preparatory construction work on the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon scheme has been underway for a number of months, and construction of the new road has now started.

We are currently carrying out a variety of tasks for which we need to close lanes or carriageway on the A1, A14 and some local roads, usually overnight between 8pm and 6am, unless otherwise stated. A clearly signed diversion route will always be in place for closures. The work includes:

M11 junctions 10 Duxford, Cambridgeshire to 8 (A120) Essex: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys by carrying out resurfacing continues this week. The M11 southbound will be closed overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Tuesday 29 August for six nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A505, A10 and the A120 eastbound.

M11 junctions 6 to 9: vegetation clearance

Work to improve visibility by clearing verges alongside the M11 between junctions 6 and 9 will continue overnight from Tuesday 29 August for nine further week nights (8pm to 6am, Mon-Fri only). While work takes place there will be single lane closures or hard should closures past the works area. This clearance work is set to finish at 6am on Saturday 9 September.

M40 junctions 1 to 1a, Denham: maintenance

Work to improve journeys by carrying out lighting maintenance and replacing safety barriers will continue between junctions 1 and 1a of the M40 until mid-October. A temporary 50mph speed limit will be in place 24/7 during the works.

A5 Northbound H8 Standing Way – H5 Milton Keynes

Work to improve journeys by resurfacing the A509 Exit Slip will start on Tuesday 29 August for five nights (8.30pm to 6am), finishing by 6am on 3 September, weather permitting.

While work takes place the A5 northbound will have one lane closed between H8 Standing Way and H5 Milton Keynes, northbound total closure of A509 exit slip plus outer ring management on the A509 roundabout.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place for all northbound traffic via the H3(A422) Stacey Bushes exit and return southbound to the A509 exit slip to continue onward journeys.

The planned full road closures happening this week

Tuesday

Hattons Road. Between junction 29 A14 and School Lane. A signed diversion will be in place. Vehicles travelling from Longstanton will be diverted east on the A1123, then south on the A10 then west on the A14 to junction 29. Vehicles travelling from the a14 will follow the route in reverse.

Tuesday to Wednesday

A1 southbound between Alconbury and Brampton Hut

A signed diversion will be in place. Drivers will be diverted south on the A14 link road to Spittals interchange, then west on the A14 to Brampton Hut to re-join the A1.

Wednesday to Thursday

A14 between junction 27 and 28. A signed diversion will be in place. Drivers heading eastbound will take the A1198 to Caxton Gibbet, then the A428 to re-join the A14, while traffic heading westbound will follow this route in reverse. Local traffic eastbound will be able to travel to and exit at junction 27. Local traffic travelling westbound will be able to access and exit at junctions, 28,29 and 30.

Thursday to Friday

A1 Northbound between Brampton Hut and Alconbury;

A signed diversion will be in place via the A14 east and then A14 link road north to re-join the A1

Friday to Monday

A1198 Ermine Street between Wood Green Animal Shelter and Barnfield Lane

A signed diversion will be in place. Vehicle travelling southbound will be diverted north onto the A14 westbound, south on the A1 and then eastbound on the A428 to re-join the A1198. Drivers travelling northbound will follow the diversion in reverse.

B1514 Buckden Road at its junction with Brampton Road and the A1northbound

A signed diversion will be in place. Vehicles travelling from Brampton Road to the A1 will be diverted onto the A1 southbound to Buckden roundabout and then return north on A1. Vehicles travelling north on A1 will be diverted to Brampton Hut interchange then return south on the A1.

A1 southbound, junction 14 to junction 15, lanes 2,3 and 4 closed

Tuesday 29 August to Friday 1 September

A14 westbound between junction 21 and junction 19, lane 1 closed

Thursday 31 August to Friday 1 September

A1 northbound between Brampton and Brampton Hut, lane 2 closed

A14 Orwell Bridge, Suffolk: principal inspection

Work to maintain safety by thoroughly inspecting all surfaces of the Orwell Bridge started on 14 August and continues until mid-October. The majority of this work will take place under the bridge, but this will effect on traffic flows over the bridge towards the end of the works as the bridge deck is inspected. Dates are dependent on initial scheme progress so will be promoted in due course.

A47 Norfolk vegetation clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing overhanging vegetation along the A47 verges continues this week. Mobile lane closures will be in place past the section being worked on overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Tuesday 29 August for up to four nights, weather permitting.

A47 junction 19, Fulbridge Footbridge: footbridge waterproofing and repair works

Work to waterproof and repair Fulbridge footbridge on A47. The footbridge will be closed for the duration of the works. A signed pedestrian diversion will be in place routing users through the subway via Itter Cresecent / Marlowe Grove & Chaucer Road for up to four weeks.
