To tie in with Afternoon Tea Week, the hotel has declared August Afternoon Tea Month, with a limited edition menu being drawn up each week, supplementing sandwiches, scones and cakes with a special addition.

During the first week diners enjoyed choux pastry, while this week the specialty was a chocolate delice.

Next week it’s a classic Victoria sponge.

And, from August 28, chefs will be recreating the Newmarket Cake. Otherwise known as Newmarket Pudding, the unique take on bread and butter pudding is filled with fruit and given a dash of rum. It dates back to the 1800s and was once a real treat for those coming back from battle.

All afternoon teas are £18.95 per person and can be taken in the Squires Restaurant or bar. Bookings are essential.
