Witham MP Priti Patel has joined the calls for First Bus to reconsider plans to axe one of its services between the town and Chelmsford.
The Service 72 bus which links Chelmsford, Boreham, and Hatfield Peverel with Witham’s Rickstones Academy is being axed – although the 71 bus from Colchester to Chelmsford will still link Witham and Hatfield Peverel with the city centre.
However Ms Patel said the move would affect children who relied on the 72 service to get to school – it serves extra stops in Witham to provide a link to Rickstones.
She said: “First Group’s arbitrary decision to withdraw this service has completely ignored the vital role it performs in being the sole means of transporting children to schools in my constituency.
“I am currently working with residents and Essex County Council to ensure that residents can get to work and school and that all options are explored with First Group to achieve this.”
