A woman was freed from her car and taken to hospital after colliding with a lorry in Halstead.
Crews were called to Hedingham Road around 2pm to reports of a crash between a car and lorry which left one woman trapped.
Firefighters from Essex County Fire & Rescue Service used cutting equipment to release the patient by 3.10pm.
A spokeswoman for the East of England Ambulance Service said the woman, aged in her 50s, was complaining of back and neck pain.
The motorist is not believed to be seriously injured but has been taken to Broomfield Hospital for further care.
