A WOMAN is fighting for her life in intensive care today after being stabbed in Lowestoft.

A 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an incident at an address in Cambridge Road early today.

The 47-year-old woman sustained stab wounds to her stomach.

Police were contacted by the ambulance service at 1.20am.

The woman was taken to the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston and is currently in the intensive care unit. The extent and nature of her injuries are still being assessed.

A man was arrested a short time later and is currently in custody at Lowestoft police station where he is due to be interviewed by detectives throughout the day.

Police have said the address at Cambridge Road has been cordoned off as a full investigation into what happened gets under way.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who was in the Cambridge Road area between midnight and 1.30am today and who may have seen or heard anything that may assist enquiries into the incident.
