A PENSIONER has been killed following a hit and run crash in a Suffolk town this morning.

A PENSIONER was killed following a hit and run in a Suffolk town this morning.

The 61-year-old was hit by a dark coloured hatch back car on Stoke Park Drive, close to the junction with Prince of Wales Drive in Ipswich.

Police were called to the scene at about 8.45am and found the woman unconscious in the road. She was taken to Ipswich Hospital but pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

It is thought the car veered off the road and collided with the pensioner before driving off. The road has been closed and diversions are in place while investigations are underway.

Detective Inspector Jim Keeble of Suffolk police said: “We believe the vehicle involved was a dark-coloured hatchback with may have been modified and which may have sustained rear end damage. We have spoken to several people who were in the area at the time but we still need to trace anyone who may have seen the collision or may have information about the vehicle.

“Do you know someone who went out in their car this morning and came home without the vehicle or with damage to it?”

Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk police on 01473 613500.
