In Suffolk alone the chain has stores in Ipswich, Felixstowe, Stowmarket and Woodbridge and Bury St Edmunds.
A total of 22,000 permanent staff and 5,000 temporary workers will be affected by the collapse, administrators said.
Administrators said they had received interest from alternative retailers for more than 300 Woolworths stores.
