SOUTH Suffolk MP Tim Yeo has been given a major role in Michael Howard's Shadow Cabinet team, taking charge of both the education and health portfolios.

Although full details of Mr Howard's team have yet to emerge, it is understood there will be just 12 members of the Shadow Cabinet.

Mr Yeo, who has been the South Suffolk MP since 1983, played a key role in Iain Duncan Smith's shadow team, initially as culture spokesman and currently as trade and industry shadow.

Others in the Howard shake-up are Dr Liam Fox, joint party chairman with Maurice Saatchi, David Willetts (policy development), Theresa May (who moves to transport), David Davis (home affairs), and Oliver Letwin (treasury).
