FORMER Southampton boss Gordon Strachan reckons Portsmouth fans would happily swap their FA Cup triumph for financial stability.

Pompey are trying to find a new owner as HM Revenue and Customs pursue an unpaid tax bill of 11.5m, less than two years after the South Coast club's FA Cup triumph at Wembley under Harry Redknapp.

And Strachan believes Portsmouth fans would exchange their win against Cardiff for getting back on a sound financial footing.

“If you said to Portsmouth fans, 'Would you swap your cup final day for security for the next 20 years?', I know what they would pick,” he said.

“I lived in the Portsmouth area and I know fine well if you said to them, 'Would you swap one day in the sunshine at Cardiff to be secure for the next 20 years?', there would be absolutely no doubt about it.

“Some of my best friends are Portsmouth fans and they would swap that right away.”
