THE Premier League is reportedly considering a proposal to introduce a play-off for the fourth Champions League spot.

Teams occupying the top four positions currently gain entry into the Champions League but a proposal has been put forward whereby teams finishing in fourth to seventh play a mini-knockout competition.

The proposal, which the Premier League have refused to comment on, is thought to have been raised at a recent meeting of all 20 clubs and will be considered again when they next meet in April.
