Tendulkar was 65 not out and Yuvraj Singh undefeated on 45 as India reached 304 for four at tea in pursuit of their target of 387.
India still required a further 83 runs to claim the fourth-highest successful run chase in Test history and the highest fourth innings total ever at the Chepauk Stadium.
