ANDY Lonergan is highly unlikely to be filling the number one slot at Portman Road next season.

Reports in the north-west insist Jim Magilton has had three bids for the Preston keeper turned down, while the EADT understands no concrete offer has been made although Lonergan is one of a few keepers Ipswich have made enquiries about.

Rumours have been circulating for a week or so that Lonergan was the preferred choice of new goalkeeping coach James Hollman but he told the EADT yesterday that while he knew of the 24-year-old he was more a friend of a friend and had never spoken to him.

Town have also been linked with Richard Wright, Simon Jentzsch, Thomas Sorensen and Antti Niemi among others.
