MILDENHALL reserved their worst performance of the season for this long trip to the north east and exited the Vase in the same round, manner and scoreline as last season.

The large open stadium surrounded by an athletics track was devoid of any atmosphere although played in front of a large crowd.

The first half was evenly contested and both sides had chances but generally defences were in control.

It all went wrong for the visitors in a disastrous 10 minutes at the beginning of the second half.

After North had shot wide when in the clear, play switched to the other end and Billingham won a corner.

It was poorly defended and the giant centre back from the home side, Marron nudged the ball home.

Mildenhall didn't learn their lesson, three minutes later an identical second was scored, this time Flanagan getting the final touch.

With 20 minutes to go the dangerous Iley waltzed around Rush and crossed for Flanagan to get his second and the contest was over.

Mildenhall introduced all their substitutes, with no effect and then the home side scored a penalty from Shaw and a forlorn Mildenhall side and supporters faced the 250-mile journey home.
