Chelmsford 1 Bournville 4
There was no change at the foot of the table as a last minute winner for Holcombe against Southgate ensured Chelmsford did not slip into the bottom three.
With two games left, Chelmsford know that their fate is still in their own hands, however the side will have to dramatically improve their performance compared to Saturday's 4-1 defeat to Bournville.
Manager Peter Woodward said: “We thought we had shown some significant improvement over the previous two weeks, however this week we didn't have the energy or the fight. I am certain we will have the zip back this week in training though.”
Chelmsford performed adequately in the first half and held a one goal advantage thanks to a 15th minute Olly Cooper strike. In fact, Chelmsford could have easily extended this lead when Dan Emery's penalty corner drag flick baffled the Bournville goalkeeper, sending him the wrong way. Only an outstretched boot saved the Birmingham side from going two down.
The second half transformation was hard to explain. A 21 minute spell saw Chelmsford concede four goals and create very few chances created for themselves.
Woodward said: “We have a real fight on our hands now. At times like this it is up to the entire squad to stand up and be counted. We stopped doing the things that have worked for us and we need to get back to those things.”
Chelmsford face sixth placed Bath next Saturday, in what has now become a proverbial six-point game.
