BOWLSMELTON Bowls Club's last event of the 2006 season was the invitation Greenkeeper Triples Tournament, sponsored by Peter Moyes.The winners were Bert Warne, Mike Nunn and Stuart Aldis from Waldringfield, who held off the challenge of Ken Frost, Norman West and Arthur Broome from the home club, although both teams remained unbeaten throughout the day.

MELTON Bowls Club's last event of the 2006 season was the invitation Greenkeeper Triples Tournament, sponsored by Peter Moyes.

The winners were Bert Warne, Mike Nunn and Stuart Aldis from Waldringfield, who held off the challenge of Ken Frost, Norman West and Arthur Broome from the home club, although both teams remained unbeaten throughout the day.

The tournament, played in perfect conditions, had a full entry of 24 teams.

The teams were split into two groups, playing four games in each, with the winning team being decided on a points basis.

The result of the tournament was in doubt until the teams played their last game, as four teams were unbeaten and in with a good chance of being the overall winners.

The leaders in group one were the team led by P Cady, but they failed in their last game, being beaten by D Beatton's triple.

This meant that they finished fourth on 43 points.

The other unbeaten team in section one was led by V Burrows.

They also lost their last game, going down to M Milldown's team, and eventually slumped back into eighth place with 36½ points.

In group two, Bert Warne's unbeaten team held a slender half-point lead going into their last game.

They took maximum points against D Brown's triple and finished winners with 54 ½ points.

Ken Frost's triple had also won all their games and despite convincingly beating B Andrews's team in their last game, they had to settle for second place with 52 points.Behind them in third place came T Vaughan's team on 44 points.
