Division One North
Ipswich II 6 Norwich Union 1
Ipswich 2s were glad to take 3 points from a crucial match at the weekend against league chasers Norwich Union. NU opened the scoring. Early confusion in the Ipswich midfield & defence allowed the visiting midfield & forwards to pass the ball right into the D unchallenged and slip a soft ball just inside the post. The shock of being 1-0 down so quickly woke Ipswich up and they started to take control. Sustained pressure resulted in a penalty stroke which was calmly converted by Leisa King to equalise. Soon after, King put Ipswich ahead from a short corner.
By now Ipswich were firmly in control and piling pressure on the visitors. Amanda Little drove the ball in from the left and her shot on goal was tipped in by Jo Gray to put Ipswich 3 -1 up at half time.
Ipswich were really connecting well, building from the back & playing a simple passing game. But Norwich Union kept threatening on the break and pulled the score back to 3-2 before a fantastic piece of teamwork resulted in goal number 4 for Ipswich; starting at the back with Hannah Godfrey finding Jo Gray, who played a one two back to Godfrey who then played a straight ball up to Amanda Little. Little found herself one on one with the keeper but unselfishly pushed a square ball to Jo Gray
running in at top D to finish off a true team effort. Similar passing play gave Little her chance to add to the scoreline and Tory Spencer secured the final goal getting a deflection from a cross.
