JUSTICE has been done according to Georges Santos after his red card at Millwall was rescinded, writes Derek Davis.

The Frenchman has now been cleared to play against Crystal Palace next Saturday after referee Iain Williamson looked at the video of the incident at the New Den and agreed the booking he gave Santos should not stand.

Santos said last night: "The referee has done the right thing and for that I thank him.

"I said at the time I did nothing wrong and it was the worst decision ever given against me in my career.

"But he has looked at it and changed his mind and that is good of him as that is not always the case."

Santos believes he was hard done by while at Grimsby last season when he was sent off against Rotherham, but the referee would not review that decision.

Blues boss Joe Royle praised Mr Williamson from Theale, in Berkshire, and believes other officials could learn from his lead.

Royle said: "It was big of him to make a decision like that. Some of the more illustrious referees have declined that option in the past, so I thank him for his bravery and his honesty."

While it is a boost to have Santos available for the Palace game, Royle still believes Ipswich suffered badly when he was dismissed.

He said: "We were favourites to win the game with 11 men on the pitch and even with 10 men I fancied us to win and they did not really have any chances until really late in the game."

Santos will go into tomorrow's derby game buoyed by the decision and admits he is relishing the white-hot atmosphere of a sell-out crowd.

With a Sheffield Wednesday-supporting girlfriend he knows all about the passion supporters have in derby matches in England

He said: "I love big games, to play in front of a full house of 29,000 is the reason why I came to England.

"At Sheffield the derby games were passionate affairs, full-blooded and I expect it will be the same on Sunday."

Santos is expected to get the nod alongside John McGreal for tomorrow's game against Norwich, with Richard Naylor on the bench.
