EVEN Neil Warnock could not believe his side Sheffield United are in today's lunchtime fifth-round FA Cup draw.

It was not as if he was bothered whether they got through at all, as he showed by making six changes from the side that went out of the Worthington Cup at Liverpool in midweek. He even fielded a 20-year-old who should have been playing for Leigh RMI in the Conference on a loan agreement.

But when things are going your way the luck of devil is with you. Warnock said: "Nothing could be better for us at the moment, everything is going for us. To win that game is incredible. Ipswich were always in control yet we were two, then three up – that's the magic of the FA Cup really.

"Ipswich must have thought they were going to win it when they got back to 3-3. They had chances to be ahead in the first half and more to win it in the second. The FA Cup is still fantastic, the supporters were tremendous; they have had a feast of games but still turned out and raised our young lads."

The manager added: "Winning is a great habit but I wouldn't have been broken-hearted if we had gone out. You could probably tell that with the selection."

Warnock is more interested in progressing in Division One and his side are putting leaders Portsmouth and Leicester under pressure. But he also knows everyone will be looking to take points off them.

He said: "To go unbeaten over 180 minutes by Liverpool means the players can hold their heads up high. We now have Millwall and Ipswich away, so it is going to be a difficult and hectic period and we don't have a big squad so we just have to hope we don't lose anyone else."

Two goals from Michael Brown stunned Town as he looked to make a point to Joe Royle, who sold him from Manchester City to United.

Warnock said: "Michael Brown keeps producing great goals – as the ball came down I couldn't believe he could do it again but he did. It was a fantastic strike.

"We had to make five changes because the team was absolutely shattered so I take my hat off to them. They just keep doing it."

But the usually forthright Warnock was not so keen to comment on what should have been an Ipswich penalty when his stand-in keeper Wilko de Vogt knocked Marcus Bent over.

Warnock said: "I don't want to comment on the referee, thank you. I couldn't see the penalty incident. All I saw was the ball go out and a player go down.

"We had that referee against Gillingham and he didn't give us a thing down there.

"Dermot is consistent, but if Joe looks at it, his team had enough chances to win the game without another penalty. They missed a couple of open goals so that decision was not the relevant issue for them anyway."

He is right, and the happy Sheffield United manager will be watching the FA Cup draw with interest today.
