Colchester United boss, John McGreal, was delighted that his side managed to “hang on” to record a 1-0 away win at Morecambe this afternoon.
The U’s had to dig deep during the second half, as the Shrimps went hard for an equaliser, after Courtney Senior had tucked home Harry Pell’s cross from close-in, on the stroke of half-time.
But they held on to record back-to-back league wins for the first time this campaign, following the previous weekend’s 3-1 home win over Crawley.
“Courtney’s goal gave us something to hang onto in the second half,” explained McGreal.
“I was disappointed with how we have played after taking a goal-lead, but sometimes you have to give the opposition some credit.
“Morecambe were a different animal in the second half, and they can be proud of their second-half performance.
“But we held on, and this has set us up nicely for Tuesday night’s trip to Grimsby.
“Courtney (Senior) took his chance well, and we’ve finally won up north now! That’s a monkey off our back.
“Sammie (Szmodics) did not play. He had a crack in training on Tuesday, and felt it on Thursday.
“He went for an X-ray yesterday, because it was on the same spot as his break from 18 months ago. But it’s just a soft tissue injury,” added McGreal.
