Jamie Scales would like Woodbridge to get to 88 points – the sooner the better.

The Woodpeckers boss has guided his team to within touching distance of promotion from Thurlow Nunn Division One after his team’s 1-0 win over second-placed Whitton United on Saturday.

Now, it’s a case of getting over the promotion line as soon as possible for the ‘Peckers – winning the title would be the icing on the cake.

“There are still 11 games left and we have plenty of tough fixtures,” Scales said.

“If we can win four of those 11 that would put us on 88 points and I’m confident that would be enough for us to go up.

“I would like to get there as soon as possible, so we can enjoy the rest of the season and see what we can achieve.”

Woodbridge are six points clear of Whitton at the top of the table after Saturday’s win. The two teams are still to meet on the final day of the season.

It was a tough game for both sides at the weekend.

“It was a huge match to win,” Scales said. “It was never going to be much of a spectacle and I thought both defences were superb in the way they coped with so many good strikers on the pitch. We were strong and I was glad about that.”

Woodbridge travel to Little Oakley tonight and Braintree Reserves on Saturday. Both Essex sides will offer their challenges, as Scales admits.

“Braintree, especially, are having a good season, so that won’t be easy for us,” he said.

“It’s been a rollercoaster four years since I took over but we have stuck together and I’ve always said promotion first and the title second. That hasn’t changed even after Saturday’s result.”

Meanwhile, Framlingham, who are in the final promotion place at present, still have 14 games to play.

They are in action tonight at home to King’s Lynn Town before facing Needham Market reserves at Badingham Road on Saturday.

Mel Aldis’ side have the hopes of their season very much in their own hands.

And what a season it would be for them should they gain promotion to Step 5. Indeed what a season it would be for Suffolk non-league should Woodbridge, Whitton and Fram all go up.
