He may have had no say in the matter, but Jonas Knudsen is delighted to have had his Ipswich Town contract extended by a further year.

The Blues activated a clause in Knudsen’s contract prior to Christmas in order to keep him at the club until 2019, with the Dane’s original deal due to expire next summer.

The 25-year-old, who moved to Portman Road from Esbjerg in the summer of 2015, insisted he is happy in Suffolk and, while he had no say in his deal being extended, is delighted to be remaining with the club.

“That’s how it is, the option was there for the club and it wasn’t for me to do anything about,” Knudsen said.

“I had the option in the contract but that’s fine by me.

“I haven’t heard anything else from the club but I only want to get on and do my best now.

“If they fancy giving me a new contract then I look forward to that, but otherwise I will just play on and do my stuff to see how it goes.

“I’m very happy here. I like the club, I like everything here and the manager has been fantastic.

“I’m very happy to play for Ipswich Town and I would definitely talk to them about a new contract and see the situation here.”

Knudsen’s contract option needed to be taken before the end of the year, while the likes Bartosz Bialkowski, Cole Skuse, Luke Hyam all have options which must be taken by May if their expiring contracts are to be extended.

Town also have an option to extend Teddy Bishop’s contract beyond the end of the season, with Knudsen backing the midfielder to battle his way back to fitness after he suffered a hamstring injury against QPR on Boxing Day.

“I feel sorry for him and I really hope it isn’t that bad because he doesn’t deserve this,” Knudsen said.

“He has worked his socks off to get back into the team and he’s been brilliant so this is so tough for him.

“I hope he recovers quickly and can be ready because he definitely deserves it, and we know what we can get from Teddy when he’s on the pitch.

“But this is how football is. Sometimes you see players get an injury setback but people like Teddy will battle through it.”

Town also hold options on the contracts of Adam McDonnell, Kieffer Moore and Kevin Bru. There is no option, though, on David McGoldrick’s expiring deal.
