AFC Sudbury boss Mark Morsley has admitted Saturday’s game against Haringey Borough was a ‘knock-back’.
The west Suffolk Bostik North side were beaten 2-1 at home against a Haringey team who have play-off aspirations in their sights.
And while Morsley is pressing no panic buttons or is in the slightest concerned about his side’s league position (15th), he was left disappointed with his team’s performance. Tonight Sudbury were due to travel to Maldon & Tiptree in a league clash. But the game was called off this morning.
“I know I shouldn’t be disappointed in what is very much a transitional season, but I was on Saturday,” he said.
“I’d seen enough of us in previous games to know we had more steel in us than we showed against Haringey. It was the first game so far that was a bit of a knock back for me.
“We could have got something out of a tough game at Hornchurch a couple of weeks ago, and then we got a good point at Potters Bar.
“I was really looking forward to the Haringey game. But they came with a game plan and we didn’t deal very well with it.”
AFC Sudbury 1 Haringey Borough 2 - match report
Sudbury continue to mix academy players with senior players as Morsley looks to utilise the large amount of young talent there is at his disposal at the King’s Marsh academy.
He knows not everything will come off, but he’s happy with what he has seen.
“The club has put a lot into the academy and we all want to see six/seven/eight/nine academy players in the match day squad in future seasons,” he said.
“But it is important the players we bring in are good enough. I know they are technically good, but can they become physically good too?
“It’s easier to develop players to scrap for the ball, than it is to pass a ball.”
Also tonight, Heybridge travel to Cheshunt in one of the Swifts’ many league games in hand.
