Sports writer Andy Warren runs the rule over the Ipswich Town players during their defeat by Aston Villa.
Bartosz Bialkowski
Was given the eyes for Adomah’s opener before the Ghana international slotted home in the first half and was left exposed in the second as the Villa man struck again. 6
Dominic Iorfa
Was given the run-around throughout much of the opening half as Adomah and left back Taylor found space to work inside the final third. Allowed Adomah in behind him for the first goal, then slipped for the second. Did look a threat striding forwards, though. 4
Luke Chambers
Another good display from the captain who got his head on the end of a number of dangerous balls into the box and, in the main, looked after the threat of young striker Davis well. 7

Adam Webster
Chambers’ partner also put in a good display, ensuring the left side of the Blues’ defence was more solid than the right. Good in the air and good on the ground, distributing well. 7
Jonas Knudsen
The Dane was as solid as ever at the back but lost possession on a couple of occasions and was not at his best going forward. Did his best to rally the troops and was vocal. 6
Cole Skuse
A little quieter than in recent weeks as he was forced into a deeper role and was unable to open up the Villa defence with his range of passing. Was solid enough but was battling with the likes of Whelan and Hourihane for the afternoon. 6
Callum Connolly
Continues to look effective in a midfield role and threw himself into tackles time and again but could not reproduce the dominance of Wednesday night. Switched to right back after Iorfa was withdrawn. 6
Grant Ward
Huffed and puffed up and down the right flank and saw a fair amount of the ball without ever being able to create in the final third. Was needed at the back to support Iorfa. 6

Freddie Sears
Now without a goal in over 900 minutes, stretching back to April, and didn’t have a sniff of goal in this one. Again, like Ward, was up and down to help in defence and attack but saw little of the ball. 5
Martyn Waghorn
Looked as likely as any Ipswich player in the final third but was unable to ever test Johnstone. His set-piece delivery was superb, though, as he proved the Blues’ best source of inspiration. 7
Joe Garner
A typical Joe Garner performance which saw the striker throw himself into the physical battle with the Villa backline. Will feel unlucky to have one chalked off for a foul on the goalkeeper. 6
Emyr Huws (for Sears, 61)
More minutes in the tank for the Welshman, who is sure to be a vital part of this Ipswich side from now on. Didn’t have the impact he did on Wednesday night but was still positive. 6
Bersant Celina (for Ward, 61)
Looked to run at the Villa defence following his introduction but was unable to create anything of note. 6
Teddy Bishop (for Iorfa, 76)
Excellent to see him back on the field after so long out, with the midfielder looking positive in possession and keen to run with the ball when given the chance. 6
