Friendly Needham Market 0 Colchester United 4 Two cracking late strikes from Sammie Szmodics saw Colchester United run out impressive 4-0 winners at Needham Market in their second friendly of the pre-season.
Tariq Issa and Denny Johnstone were the other U’s scorers, as the side made it two wins from two after their 2-0 win at Maldon & Tiptree on Saturday.
But Needham almost took the lead, with striker John Sands firing over an open goal in the 20th minute.
Five minutes later Johnstone made it 1-0, tapping home a rebound from Drey Wright’s effort. Sam Walker then tipped a deflected cross onto his own bar as the U’s went into the break 1-0 up.
Sands hit the post for the Marketmen before Wright did the same for the U’s, but Issa made sure of victory ten minutes from time with a tap in from a parried shot.
Szmodics still had time to make it 3-0 in the 88th minute with a fantastic 25-yarder, before he made it 4-0 a minute later.
