Kundai Benyu has left Ipswich Town to sign for Scottish champions Celtic on a four-year deal.
The 19-year-old, who failed to make a senior appearance for the Blues after signing in 2011, starred on-loan for National League Aldershot last term, helping them reach the play-offs.
Having patched up his differences with manager Mick McCarthy, the Camden-born midfielder, who qualifies to play for Zimbabwe, was expected to sign a new deal with the club, but was not present at Town’s return to pre-season training on Monday.
Out-of-contract, Benyu will command a fee as he is under 24 and told Celtic’s website: “It’s a massive honour to sign for the Scottish champions and one of the world’s truly great clubs.
“I’m looking forward to meeting up with my new Celtic team-mates. I know there’s a lot of hard work ahead of me but I am ready for this, I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
