Tom Lawrence was named the ‘Players’ Player of the Year’ at Ipswich Town’s annual awards night, held at The Hangar, Milsom’s Kesgrave Hall on Tuesday night.

The Welsh international forward, 23, has lit up an otherwise frustrating season for the Blues with some sparkling displays and spectacular goals during his loan spell from Leicester City.

He dominated the ‘Goal of the Season’ category, claiming first, second and third for his stunning strike at QPR, long-range screamer against Blackburn and jinking run and angled finish against Preston respectively.

• McCarthy says ‘no chance’ of signing Lawrence.
