The Blues are now just five points above the Championship drop zone following Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Cardiff City and manager Mick McCarthy concedes his team are in a ‘relegation scrap’ with eight games to play.

It capped a bad 48 hours for Blues fan after they received the news last Friday that the club was putting up adult season ticket prices by 1.5%.

Town have won just two of their 16 games across all competitions this calender year. Following this weekend’s international break they face fellow-strugglers Birmingham (18th) and Wigan (23rd) at Portman Road.

Then comes Fulham (a), Burton (a), Newcastle (h), Rotherham (a), Sheffield Wednesday (h) and Nottingham Forest (a).

Ipswich Town have been in the top two tiers of English football for 60 successive seasons. Their lowest second-tier finishes in that time are 16th (1959), 15th (1966, 2006, 2010, 2012) and 14th (1991, 2007, 2013).
