Leiston boss Glenn Driver has said he feels many Ryman Premier Division clubs are wondering when his side – and fellow Suffolk rivals, Needham Market – are going to slip up this season.

Both the Marketmen (won 3-1 at Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday), and the Blues (also won 3-1 at Worthing), picked up notable away victories on Saturday.

Needham sit in second place in the table, while Leiston are fourth, with games in hand.

Both are in the play-off positions.

It’s a coup for Suffolk non-league football to have high-flying clubs in the area and Driver admits it’s great for the game in the area.

“We had a great result on Saturday, so did Needham,” he said.

“I’ll put it on the record now and say Worthing were the best team we have played this season.

“They were young, with a few teenagers in their side. But they played the ball around beautifully.

“We were a couple ahead but could have been more at the break.

“But Worthing came back into it and when they got one, it became like the Alamo. I must admit I thought ‘oh no they are going to get another’.

“Fortunately Matt Blake broke away to get us a third.”

Leiston travel to Wingate & Finchley on Tuesday in pursuit of more Ryman League points.

“We go again and it is relentless,” Driver said.

“I think the rest of the league is waiting for us and Needham to slip up. But we keep on going.

“Needham’s was a great result on Saturday at Havant.

“Wouldn’t it be good for Suffolk football if we could both at least make the play-offs?

“It’s a long way to go and we have a big game on Saturday – at home to Dulwich Hamlet.”

Leiston would go top of the table if they were to win their games in hand, one of them is tonight at Wingate.

“We also have Tonbridge at home later in the month and we still have to play leaders Bognor home and away.”

Driver has a fully-fit squad ahead of the clash at Wingate, close to the North Circular. With Tonbridge entertaining Enfield Town tonight, more points are set to be dropped by one of the play-off pushing teams.

Meanwhile, Needham Market entertain Merstham on Tuesday night.
