Felixstowe & Walton United will aim to reproduce some of their cup form this season when they host Saffron Walden at the Goldstar Ground today, in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, writes Phil Griffiths.

The Seasiders lost to a last-minute Walsham-le-Willows goal last Saturday, to suffer their third league defeat this campaign, leaving them 19 points adrift of leaders, Mildenhall Town.

Either side of that defeat at Summer Road they have made progress in three different cup competitions, scoring 12 goals without reply.

The latest win came on Tuesday when Kevin O’Donnell’s side put four past Division One Woodbridge Town in the second round of the League Cup.

O’Donnell has tried to solve his problems in front of goal this week by bringing in Nick Ingram from Bury Town.

Ingram went straight into the starting line up against Woodbridge and scored the Seasiders’ third goal in the 4-0 win.

Saffron Walden arrive at the Goldstar Ground in 14th place, with just four wins from their opening dozen league games – the last of those a 5-0 home win against basement side FC Clacton.

They have found results hard to come by in recent games, losing a penalty shoot-out in the League Cup against neighbours Haverhill Rovers in midweek.

You have to go back to August to find their two away wins on the road.

They have scored 25 times in their dozen fixtures to date but they have been equally generous at the other end, conceding 25.

O’Donnell will be looking for his side to produce a convincing performance ahead of the Seasiders’ trip to Basildon United next week in the second round of the FA Vase.

n Mildenhall travel to Haverhill Rovers today and will be favourite to extend an impressive away record of eight straight wins and 10 in total since their only league defeat back in late August.

With an eight-point lead and a game in hand over second-placed Stanway Rovers, the ‘Hall, managed by Dean Greygoose, are already being marked as title favourites.

Walsham-le-Willows host Wivenhoe, having knocked Whitton United out of the League Cup in midweek.

The return of Andrew Wood and Nathan Clarke will be a boost for the Willows who know a couple of positive results will take them away from the relegation zone.

Ipswich Wanderers go to Ely City on the back of an excellent midweek win at Wivenhoe, while Hadleigh United travel to second-bottom Swaffham Town.

A win would open up a 10-point gap between the two sides and take United away from the relegation zone.

Kirkley & Pakefield host Godmanchester, while Long Melford, who find themselves in the relegation zone after a string of poor results, entertain mid-table Fakenham Town.

The Villagers picked up their first point in six games last week at Saffron Walden.

Elsewhere, second-placed Stanway Rovers host fifth-top Great Yarmouth and Thetford are at home to Newmarket.

Brantham Athletic hosted FC Clacton last night.
