Colchester United goalscorer Kurtis Guthrie described the U’s current poor run as “a shambles,” following today’s heart-breaking 2-1 defeat at Yeovil Town.
But Guthrie lays the blame at the feet of the players, not manager John McGreal.
The U’s had looked to be heading to what would have been a first victory in 10 weeks, when Guthrie nodded them into a 49th minute lead.
But late goals from substitutes Francois Zoko (85 minutes) and Tahvon Campbell (89) snatched victory for Yeovil.
It was a cruel finish for the U’s, but it stretches their miserable run to 13 games without a victory (10 in the league), and means they have dropped into the bottom two.
“We looked like holding on, but we didn’t. It’s a shambles at the moment,” blasted Guthrie after today’s heart-break in Somerset.
“And that’s got nothing to do with the manager.
“It’s simply not good enough!
“The players need to start shaping up and doing it, otherwise we will be relegated.
“You can say we ‘nearly’ won, but then nearly is not good enough.
“If we don’t change it, we are going to be relegated,” added Guthrie
