Andre Dozzell’s debut goal at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday sees the teenager join his father Jason on the list of Ipswich Town’s youngest ever goalscorers
Andre, aged just 16 and 350 days at the time of the goal, headed the Blues level at Hillsborough at the weekend, emulating Jason’s achievement 32 years earlier.
He is now set to start at Portman Road against Fulham tomorrow night.
Only 24 players have scored for Ipswich aged 18 or under and are listed below, courtesy of Renegade Statman.
Jason Dozzell - Ipswich Town 3 Coventry City 1, February 4 1984 - aged 16 years and 57 days
The older of the two Dozzells still holds the record for English football’s youngest top flight scorer, after coming off the bench against Coventry in February 1984 to find the net.
He went on to play for the Blues more than 400 times before a £1.9million move to Tottenham in 1993, before seeing out his career with Colchester, Northampton and Canvey Island, as well as a brief return to Portman Road in 1997.
Connor Wickham - Shrewsbury 3 Ipswich Town 3 (Ipswich won 4-2 on penalties), August 11 2009 - aged 16 years and 133 days
Wickham made his debut at the end of the 2008-09 season but was heavily involved the following season, with his first goals coming in a brace in the League Cup at Shrewsbury. He also scored from the spot in the penalty shootout win.
He ultimately scored 15 times in 82 games before being sold to Sunderland for a sizeable fee in 2011 and is now at Crystal Palace.
Andre Dozzell - Sheffield Wednesday 1 Ipswich Town 1, April 16, 2016 - aged 16 years and 350
There has been much talk surrounding Dozzell junior since his early teens and, following an unused substitute appearance against Nottingham Forest, came off the bench at half-time at Hillsborough.
Just 26 minutes later, he’d headed home Liam Feeney’s cross and sent the travelling fans mad, repeating the achievement of his dad 32 years previously.
Dean Bowditch - Ipswich Town 1 Kidderminster Harriers 0, August 13 2003 - aged 17 years and 59 days
Young striker Bowditch burst onto the scene when Joe Royle brought him off the bench at Carrow Road in 2003, with his first goal coming the following August as he scored the winner in the 1-0 win over Kidderminster.
He made more than 80 appearances for Ipswich but was loaned out six times before ultimately being released. He’s now back in the Championship with MK Dons.
Owen Garvan - Ipswich Town 2 Southampton 2, September 13 2005 - aged 17 and 227 days
The Irish midfielder started, and played the full 90 minutes, of the opening day game against Cardiff and went on to play 33 times in his first season in the first team, with his first goal coming from range in the 2-2 home draw with Southampton.
Despite at one stage looking like he would be a mainstay of the Ipswich midfield for many years, he was sold by Roy Keane to Crystal Palace in 2010 and is now at Colchester.
Darren Bent - Newcastle United 4 Ipswich Town 1, November 27, 2001 - aged 17 years and 294
Not many teenagers make their first-team debuts in European competition, but that’s exactly what Darren Bent did against Helsingborgs in 2001 as he replaced Richard Naylor. He scored his first goal at St James’ Park two games later, firing home a consolation in a 4-1 League Cup loss, before scoring the winner at Portman Road in the 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough the following April.
He was sold to Charlton at the end of an impressive 2004/05 season, in which he scored 19 times, and took the Premier League by storm before being bought by Tottenham for £17million.
Josh Carson - Ipswich Town 2 Crystal Palace 1, April 9 2011, - aged 17 and 310 days
At a time when the Blues were in need of some width, Carson made a quick impact as he scored twice in just his third appearance to beat Crystal Palace. The Northern Irishman drove in from the right before firing into the far corner for his first, before finishing from close-range for his second.
Sadly he only played 33 times for Ipswich before being loaned to York in 2013, where he remains after signing a full-time deal.
Danny Haynes - Ipswich Town 2 QPR 2, December 10, 2005 - aged 17 year and 325 days
Danny Haynes scored his fair share of dramatic goals for Ipswich, with his first no exception as he struck in the 90th minute to earn the Blues a 2-2 home draw with QPR.
Saving his best for clashes with rivals Norwich, Haynes made 43 starts and 85 substitute appearances for the Blues and is currently at Boreham Wood, on loan from Ebbsfleet.
Jordan Rhodes - Ipswich Town 1 Cardiff City 1, April 9 2008 - aged 18 years and 64 days
Rhodes never made a start for Ipswich but did manage a goal as a substitute as he equalised against Cardiff, but has certainly found the net regularly since after being allowed to leave the club in 2009.
Having played for the likes of Huddersfield, Blackburn and now Middlesbrough, he’s scored 186 goals in all competition and has also found the net regularly against the Blues.
Mark Brennan - Ipswich Town 3 Coventry City 1, February 4 1984 - aged 18 years and 123 days
Midfielder Brennan’s first Ipswich goal was largely overshadowed by the performance of Jason Dozzell. Having made his first team debut the previous November, Brennan struck the second in the win over Coventry, before Dozzell stole the headlines with the third.
After leaving Ipswich in 1988, he played for Middlesbrough, Manchester City, Oldham and Sydney Olympic, before finishing up in non-league.
The other players to have scored for the Blues aged 18 or under are: Teddy Bishop, Ron Wigg, Darren Ambrose, Kieron Dyer, Kevin Beattie, Billy Clarke, Mich D’Avray, Colin Viljoen, Matt Richards, Eddie Spearritt, Ronan Murray, Simon Walton, Mick Lambert, Steve McCall.
