Ipswich Town new boy Liam Feeney is confident he can add a creative spark to the side.

The versatile winger has swapped a Championship relegation battle with Bolton for a top-six push with the Blues.

And the way he describes his strengths will be music to the ears of fans.

“I’m direct, pacy and I like to work hard. I can play anywhere in the forward positions and my game is to get the ball and be creative,” said the 29-year-old.

“I like to run at people, get shots off and get assists. Hopefully I can show the fans what I’m about. I’d like to think I could add something to the team.”

The former Bournemouth and Millwall man terrorised Town with his speed and movement in the recent 2-2 draw at The Macron Stadium. Now he is preparing to make his debut for the Blues in tomorrow’s home game against Rotherham.

“Everything happened so quickly,” he explained. “I was told about the move Tuesday morning, drove down and watched the lads get the win against Blackburn and trained for the first time on Thursday.

“The expectancy to win games comes with its own challenges, but I’d much prefer this pressure than the pressure of trying to stay in the league.

“I’m out of contract in the summer, so I always had one eye on impressing potential suitors.

“I’m pretty confident in my own ability, I’ve been playing pretty well this season and I’m glad the manager here saw something in me.”

Meanwhile, the London-born player revealed he is eligible to play international football for either Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland due to the fact he has grandparents from both nations.

His ex-Bolton boss Neil Lennon encouraged him to start discussions with Northern Ireland, but Feeney now joins an Ipswich squad full of Republic connections – including boss Mick McCarthy.

“I’ve got grandparents from both parts of Ireland,” he said. “I had a few conversation with them (Northern Ireland) about it, but that’s it, nothing more.

“Obviously they are both doing very and have qualified for the Euros, but that’s very much at the back of my mind at the moment.

“If it comes to having to choose, I’d have to have a long think.”
