Defender Tommy Smith was happy to keep Burnley strikers Andre Gray and Sam Vokes quiet at Turf Moor this afternoon as Ipswich Town secured a 0-0 draw.
The New Zealander, along with central defensive partner Christophe Berra, endured a tough battle with the Clarets’ strikeforce but largely kept them at arms’ length throughout the 90 minutes.
Smith was disappointed not to break the club’s record for consecutive away wins this afternoon, but was pleased to maintain an unbeaten record away from Suffolk which now stands at seven games.
“We knew it’d be a tough game against Burnley especially with it being away from home and unfortunately we didn’t get the record for the most consecutive away wins but the unbeaten run goes on,” he told the club’s official website.
“They have a good strike-force with Vokes and Gray so we knew we were going to have to keep them quiet if we knew we were going to have any chance of getting something out of the game.
“There wasn’t too many clear cut chances for either side, but it would have been harsh if one of the half chances had gone in. A draw was probably a fair result today.”
