It’s top versus second in Ryman League Division One North on Saturday, as leaders VCD Athletic host Witham Town.
North Essex side Witham saw their impressive eight-game winning streak come to an end at Needham Market, 1-0 on Thursday night, and victory today would see them replace their opponents at the top of the table.
Manager Garry Kimble, the division’s Manager of the Month for March, says victory for either side today won’t determine the fate of the title but, with two games in hand, Witham would suddenly become slight favourites to win automatic promotion.
“It is not about Saturday’s result and there will be many more twists and turns before the end of the season, especially as both ourselves and VCD have to play around us,” said Kimble.
“There isn’t much between the teams. We won the game 4-1 at our place earlier on in the season so they will be smarting from that.
“We have to make sure we don’t let the occassion get to us and treat it like any other game.
“It won’t decide the title and I think the race will go down to the wire.”
Kimble has an almost fully-fit squad to choose from with only Dean Green (back) set to miss out.
