Little Legend is the class act among the 88 entries for the Waveney Harriers Point-To-Point which will take place at Higham, between Colchester and Ipswich, on Sunday, March 2.

This fixture was scheduled for February 16 before torrential rain forced its postponement. Organisers have taken the brave decision to have another go - rearranged meetings often struggle to attract decent crowds and therefore cover their costs - and the weather forecast certainly suggests that racing should go ahead this time.

The seven-race card starts at noon with an eight-entry Club Members Race and runs through until 3.30pm when the Intermediate Race, which has 12 potential combatants, comes under orders.

The steeplechasing will be preceded by the first two races of the local children’s pony racing season, contested around half a lap of the course but bypassing the fences, at 11.00am and 11.20am.

Little Legend may bid to land the AGA-sponsored Ladies Open for a third straight year. He is a perfect three-from-three under National Hunt rules having proved his wellbeing with a smooth success in a Warwick hunter chase five weeks ago.

But his 12 possible rivals here include a number of handy performers such as Qrackers, who won a hot contest at Cottenham late last year, and Start Royal, a recent course and distance scorer who hails from the in-form Alan Hill yard.

The 11 prospective runners in the Mens Open include Macklin, who is trained near Newmarket by John Ferguson and has won five of his last seven starts, while the front-running Galbally King, from the Bury St Edmunds yard of Andrew Pennock, may bid for a quick follow-up to last Sunday’s Cottenham win in the Hunts Club Members Race.

Higham is just to the west of the A12 between Colchester and Ipswich using the B1068 turn-off towards Stoke-by-Nayland, post code CO7 6LE. Admission will be charged at £12 per head with children under 17 allowed in for free.
