Ipswich ‘Sackers’ Witches No.1 Ben Barker admitted to feeling ‘bitterly disappointed’ after being left out of Great Britain’s World Team Cup squad.

The final four chosen to represent Great Britain at King’s Lynn next week are Tai Woffinden, Chris Harris, Craig Cook and Edward Kennett.

Team boss Neil Middleditch could change the quartet should Great Britain fail to qualify from the Lynn meeting and need to go into the run-off in Prague, but Barker is by no means certain to get a call-up then either.

It’s all left the Truro-based 25-year-old upset and baffled.

“I’m in the best form of my career at the moment, not just this season” Barker said last night.

“I’m bitterly disappointed.

“I think I’m the second best British rider on current form behind Tai.

“OK, six weeks ago I was struggling, but that was then.

“Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t pick players on what they did a few months or years ago. He played who his form players were. I wish the boys all the best of luck, but I think I could have strengthened that team.”

Barker’s promoter at Ipswich, Chris Louis, pictured right, feels his man had a case to be included.

“On current form he should have been in,” Louis said.

“I think if he’d turned his form round two or three weeks ago, he would have been on the radar earlier. I’m disappointed for him.”
