A hard-hitting, furiously paced sport nicknamed “Murderball” has arrived in Suffolk.
Following a series of taster sessions, the county’s first wheelchair rugby training session was held at Rock Barracks gymnasium, near Woodbridge.
GB Wheelchair Rugby teamed up with Woodbridge Rugby Club to bring the sport to our region as part of the Paralympic legacy.
With a limited number of clubs across the country, players have to travel long distances to train and play. Until now, the nearest clubs have been Stoke Mandeville and Stanmore.
Jan Ballard, sponsorship secretary at Woodbridge Rugby Club, said: “It was brilliant to see so many familiar faces from the taster sessions and to welcome newcomers Alex Walls from Brandon, Lee Dixon from Norwich and Jason Gunn from Ongar joining us for the first time.”
The club is currently seeking sponsors. Training is organised with Suffolk Coastal and takes place every Sunday from 10.30am to 12.30pm at Rock Barracks.
