SUFFOLK FA’s first Ability Counts Fun Day of 2013 was hosted by Maidenhall Sports Centre in Ipswich.

The fun day signals the start to a new season of disability football events planned across the county this year.

Eight teams from clubs such as Cornard Dynamos, Waveney, Kirkley & Pakefield and Ipswich Town competed in the friendly mixed ability five-a-side tournaments on Saturday creating a fantastic atmosphere. The day really showcased and celebrated adult disability football in Suffolk.

Jenny Morris, Suffolk FA’s Social Inclusion Development Officer, commented: “Today really has been fantastic. It’s great to see so many players and teams here to help kick off a new start to the season. There are now festival dates planned to take us right into the summer, and I think everyone is excited to see this competition grow.”

Suffolk FA is committed to continue to offer inclusive football opportunities, such as the Ability Counts Programme, across Suffolk. Ability Counts aims to engage with young people and adults with physical disabilities, learning difficulties or mental health issues and provide them with an opportunity to take part in football.

The next festival will be hosted by Ipswich Town Football Club on March 23.

If you are an individual or current club member who would like some more information in joining a team or establishing a team for players with a variety of disabilities please contact Jenny Morris, Football Development Officer (Inclusion) Jenny.Morris@suffolkfa.com or Jim Hill County Welfare Officer Jim.Hill@suffolkfa.com

A special thanks needs to be given to Jim Hill, Suffolk FA’s Welfare Officer, whom without the day would not have been possible.
