STAND-IN skipper Michael Rose was cursing Shrewsbury keeper Chris Weale, for his stoppage time save during Saturday’s pulsating 2-2 draw at New Meadow.
Dead-ball specialist Rose was denied by Weale – the Shrews No. 1 dived to his left to push away Rose’s goal-bound free-kick in the 93rd minute.
It may have been a case of over-familiarity that led to Weale’s instinctive late save.
“I thought it was going in,” confirmed Rose, who was the U’s skipper for the day in the absence of the suspended Anthony Wordsworth.
“Maybe he (Weale) has done his homework?
“But I used to play with him at Yeovil (2004-06), so maybe he remembers from back then?
“He made a good save, so unfortunately it was just the one point.
“Maybe we should have sat back and seen the game out at 2-0, but that’s not the way we play.
“Conceding two goals from set pieces, having been in control for most of the game, was bitterly disappointing,” added Rose.
The U’s are 12th in League One, going into next weekend’s league break when they are involved in FA Cup first round action at Chelmsford City.
