COLCHESTER United boss John Ward was fuming with the penalty decision that condemned the U’s to another defeat (1-0) at Scunthorpe this afternoon.
The U’s were beaten by a 76th minute penalty from loanee striker Leon Clarke, so condemning them to the worst start to a season in the club’s history.
But it appeared as though Clarke stood on the ball and fell over, rather than be upended by a U’s defender.
It was certainly a bitter pill to swallow for U’s boss Ward, coming just four days after Crawley defender Kyle McFadzean had scored in a 1-1 draw at the Community Stadium with a clear handball.
“It’s a hard one to take when we have lost it on that situation,” admitted Ward.
“We are feeling a little sorry for ourselves at the moment, but with a reason.
“The goals we have conceded have not been down to us in the last two games.
“I’m reluctant to complain about referees, but they really should get things correct.
“And the last couple of goals that we have conceded have been incorrect decisions.
“We could do with a break, I wouldn’t say ‘no’ to one.
“We’ve got to play better football, but the attitude it OK.
“We are trying our hardest but it is just not happening for us,” added Ward.
