JUST six days ago, Anthony Wordsworth feared that he had broken his leg.
But now Colchester United’s influential midfielder is preparing for a dramatic return, against visiting Doncaster Rovers tomorrow.
Wordsworth escaped with only bad bruising, after twisting his ankle in an awkward fall during the closing minutes of the 1-0 defeat at Brentford last Saturday.
And a relieved John Ward revealed last night that Wordsworth was on course to make this weekend’s squad, together with U’s stalwart Karl Duguid, who is likewise planning a swift return from a knee injury.
Ward said: “Both Anthony and Karl trained for three-quarters of the morning, and hopefully there is no reaction.
“The terrific thing, from my point of view, is that both of them are desperate to get back.
“No one wants to hide, despite our poor start to the season. They all want to be out there.
“When Anthony was carried off last weekend, he thought that he had broken his leg. It was scary.
“But he has since had a few days of intensive treatment, with physio Tony Flynn. Now he wants to be involved.”
