IPSWICH Witches riders Morten Risager and Taylor Poole are both in Ipswich Hospital with injuries which are likely to keep them out for months.

Risager has broken 4 vertabrae in his back, while Poole has a broken arm, the result of last night’s horror meeting at Foxhall.

It was a meeting that also left Rye House captain Chris Neath with neck injuries and he is also waiting to see whether he will need surgery.

For both clubs it is a big blow with the season only having just started, but the for the Witches in particular to lose two key riders so early in the season is sad news.

Witches director of speedway Chris Louis said today: “It’s a huge shame because the boys had all started to bond,” he said.

“They had been together for a couple of weeks now and I know the rest of the boys are devastated for Morten and Taylor.

“Morten’s injury is longer term than Taylor’s, it could be three to six months. Taylor’s arm is broken, but isn’t as bad as it looked at track side. But he will still be out for a while.”

In Saturday’s EADT newspaper, more from Chris Louis on who he could be targeting to replace Poole and Risager.

Plus Risager talks to the EADT from his hospital bed.
