COLCHESTER United boss John Ward was full of praise for his match winner, and man-of-the-match, Michail Antonio, following yesterday’s excellent 1-0 win at Chesterfield.

Antonio drilled home through a sea of legs on the half-hour mark to seal United’s second away win of the season.

The 21-year-old has certainly made a big impact since his loan switch from Reading six weeks ago.

Ward enthused: “Michail has had a really good game.

“He has now played a number of matches for us, and got his full match-fitness. That was our agreement with Reading, and today he looked a very strong player.

“He had a lot of tantalising runs down the right and also produced the goal for us. He was the shining light in a very good team performance.

“We have talked to him about his finishing.

“He has been getting in excellent positions but then been very wayward with the final finish.

“He tends to knock it on the A12 or whack it out of play.

“We just said ‘calm down’ on the last bit. And he showed real quality against Chesterfield. It was a sweet strike for the goal and he also got all his crosses in.

“I thought he was the best player on show,” concluded Ward.
