IT is now 270 minutes and three 1-0 wins since Braintree last conceded a goal after they edged over the line at home to Newport County on Saturday.
The Iron took all three points courtesy of the impressive Ben Wright’s first half strike – the former Newport man scoring against his old club from 10 yards after meeting Adam Bailey-Dennis’ header back across goal, on 20 minutes.
That was their best chance of a scrappy first half while Nathan McDonald denied Tom Miller at the other end with a smart save.
The keeper was equal to another Miller effort in the second half and that was the closest the visitors came, although they did have four penalty appeals turned down by referee Amy Fearn.
As Newport huffed and puffed in possession, Braintree always looked dangerous on the break and substitute Sean Marks squandered a hat-trick of chances late on as the hosts held on to take all three points.
“As a manager, three 1-0 wins is a dream and I am delighted for the boys,” said manager, Alan Devonshire.
“If you look at how many chances they had and how many we had, I would say we had more so I am really pleased with the result.
“I thought Ben Wright was the man of the match today and he is getting to the levels where I want him to be.”
Braintree travel to Woking tomorrow night to face Hayes & Yeading, a side unbeaten at home so far this season.
Braintree: McDonald, Peters, Bailey-Dennis, Payne, Thomas, Yiadom (Quinton, 88), Davis, Symons, Reason, Wright (O’Connor, 90), Chilaka (Marks, 71)
